Crappie Fishing-Early Spring

My first crappie fishing trip this year was on February 20th. Unseasonable weather had the air temperature in the mid to upper sixties. The water temperature was forty three degrees with a southeast wind. The fish were held tight to structure in twenty two to twenty eight feet of water and tight to the bottom. I didn’t find any big fish but ended the day with two keepers and several small fish. It was a finicky bite, as expected, but you can’t beat a day on the lake while everyone else is at work 🙂
