Saturday, January 7th was my third time on the ice this year. We were on the ice at first light and the bite was great for the first 40 minutes. After that we struggled to find fish willing to bite. Fishing extreme cold fronts, even through the ice, has always given me the same uneventful results. Fish will be active at dawn and dusk as usual; but the daytime bite can be almost nonexistent. We didn’t stay for the evening bite and finished with thirteen that were 8″ or larger, with the largest fish being right at 10″. Total count for the day was somewhere around sixty fish.
